The Dramatics

One of the first concerts I visited was one by The Stylistics. I think it was in 1974. I listened a lot to the radio in those days and one of the highlights was a weekly two hour Soulshow, presented by a guy named Ferry Maat. I could afford one 45 each week and much of the records that I bought, were songs that I heard in the Soulshow. I soon learned that if there are four or five black guys on an recordcover, all dressed up in fancy tuxedos, it was worth the money.
I discovered the best bands in this genre much later, when I began visiting more recordshops and had more money to spend. The Dramatics are among my all time favourites and to my surprise there are several videos on YouTube. I have never seen these guys perform live, and it gave me goosebumps to see and hear that they can do it on stage just as well as in the studio. I wish I could say that of all my favourite bands.
The idea that in the near future ALL existing video-recordings will be available on the Internet is so exciting that I can hardly wait. But ofcourse, some of the best bands were never filmed. I am afraid that some of the best bands were never even recorded. But there is probably enough material to keep me satisfied for the rest of my life.
