The Bar Kays

I bought Watt Stax LP’s when I was 13 or 14. I didn’t like all the music on the records, but I loved the proud-to-be-black atmosphere of the concert. I seriously wanted to be black in that period of my life. But it never happened.
On the sleeve of the double LP’s is a picture of the band The Bar Kays that excited me just as much as their music. The word “cool” was not used yet in those days, but these guys seemed to me from another planet.
Somehow this video does not seem as alien as I expected it to be. My next door neighbors look more alien than these guys. But the music and the atmosphere has not lost any of its magic for me.
