Dilo!

Wednesday, 3 January 2007

From the sleeves of his records and in the booklets that go with his CD’s, I know how he looked, but I had never seen Perez Prado* moving. To see how my heroes move is one of the better excuses I can give for watching YouTube. Of course, you don’t need excuses to watch YouTube, only a lot of time.
I love the music that Perez Prado recorded. Both the early, more original Cuban stuff, and the poppy crowd pleasers which he made a few decades later. He had such a great dance sound, and such a tight orchestra!
I could not find any of my favourite songs by The King Of Mambo on Youtube, but I was happy to find this obscure track. The contrast between the spectacular music and the static “show” is pretty much what I expected, but of course not what I hoped for. No wild man, sweating and making moves to sexy half naked exotic girls, that dance around fires.
