Singing Handkerchief

Thursday, 21 December 2006

Singing Postcards are made by gluing very thin transparent plastic layers onto pieces of cardboard. The picture is on the cardboard, the sound on the plastic. “Why not use textile in stead of cardboard?” is not an idea that many people will have had. And if they had it, they probably have discarded it as a pretty stupid idea. Except for the guy (this can’t be a girl!) who gave us this record:
It is a handkerchief-record! I wish I could say it is the only one I have ever seen, but actually I have two different of such textile records. There is no information on it that explains their existence, but I guess it was part of an advertising campaign in the early 70’s. The music is not what you want to listen to, but still this is the kind of stuff that makes my stay on this planet worth while.
