This book was published in 1960:

It is written by Rudi Blesh. The idea behind the book is that folk music is not necessarily country music. As Rudi Blesh writes, there are also folks living in cities. In the book he does a pick from the folk song repertoire that was popular in American cities. Apart from the original insights that Rudi has in this material, i like the book for the design. It is all hand lettered and illustrated by Horst Geldmacher. Here is the introduction (i know it is hard to read, but it is worth the effort):
